| Home | I love Barbara Sessa. I
first met her when we worked together at Minisink Valley High
School in 1996. I was 23 years old, and even though I had been a track and
cross country runner all through high school, I was seriously out of shape
aerobically, but I was still strong. I can still remember the moment I
realized that Sessa was extraordinary. Thinking I was so buff because I could
do 35 push-ups, I challenged Sessa to a contest. I thought she looked
strong, but not too many women can do over 35 real push-ups...well, I got
down and eeked out my 35. She looked impressed and complimented my
performance, and then Barbara Sessa got down and did 36 ONE-HANDED PUSH-UPS!
I could not believe it-I have wanted to BE her ever since.

we began running together. Now-I'm a difficult
person to coach-no
one has
ever measured up to the amazing men who coached me in high school, but Barbara Sessa does. I ran for her the way I ran for them-to this day if Sessa told me to jump off of a cliff, I would do it. Barbara is an amazing coach because she is an amazing human being with a hysterical sense of humor. She is real, so there is nothing phony about her. Most importantly, Sessa is extremely intelligent, although she is too modest to admit it. She knows her subjects-the human body and the human mind. She is just a joy to be around-Back in 1996 and 1997 we'd run together every 9th period, and I was soon running 5ks just as fast as I did in high school. There is no one like Sessa-she is a fierce competitor, a dynamic force, and a caring human being. That is why her students love her, her colleagues love her, and I love her. Working with Barbara Sessa is the
best thing I have ever done for my health! I was thinking about
taking up running for a while as i'd read it was the best way to lose
weight, tone up the bottom and get rid of cellulite. The trouble
was even though I had been a consistent exerciser every time I tried
running I couldn't last more than 5 minutes and it disheartened
me. Then Sessa gave me a beginner's running plan where I walked
and ran for 20 minutes and within weeks I could manage 20 minutes of
running non- stop! I'll never forget my first 5k run - the
elation I felt to be able to run the complete race! I felt
great! Sessa is by far the most motivational trainer I have ever
had the pleasure (not always!) of working with. Her endless
energy and enthusiasm makes it difficult to not want to succeed.
She took me from being an inconsistent exerciser to a dedicated
runner. Her endless energy, words of encouragement and positive
praise make her a perfect teacher and role model. I am so
grateful for what she has done for
me!

To workout or to not work
out...for many of us this is a source of frustration. Barbara
Sessa's workouts rebut all excuses. As a matter of fact, they
encourage and nurture athletes. They are not too hard, they do
not take too much of your time, and they challenge you enough to make
you feel like you have accomplished something. Barbara helps you
set reasonable goals that are personal and achievable. They leave
you feeling like, "I can do this again tomorrow." Barbara Sessa taught me how to work out. I feel the reason why it has been so easy to keep up with the workouts is because they are more effective when I know what I am doing. Variety has been essential, and Barbara has shown me how to keep things interesting by changing the type of workout I do or even by mixing things up in my daily run. The workouts are effective whether I am with a group or alone. Barbara's personal style gives me a sense of empowerment because my workout is MY workout. Having someone available to answer questions, offer suggestions, and above all to give praise and support is important to maintaining my personal fitness routine. Barbara Sessa is the one person who actually got me to get up and move. I had the desire to get back into shape for a long time; however, I wasn't doing anything about it. That is actually inaccurate, I was using good energy to convince myself not to workout and I trained myself to become a wonderful excuse - maker - which did nothing to improve my fitness. Barbara basically invited me to participate in my own well-being...and now I am glad that I did. With any workout regimen, the results are both the motivation and the goal. As a person with diabetes, I saw an improvement in my overall health. I feel stronger and more confident than ever. There’s one word that comes to
mind when I think of Barbara Sessa; ENERGY! Barbara has an
electrifying zing to her entire personality; it’s the perfect spirit
you’d want when seeking a coach to take you to the next level.

| Barbara
Sessa is one of the most motivating coaches I have ever worked with. I,
as a past coach and athlete myself, have seen many people try to lead teams or individuals to reach their goals, but what sets Barbara apart is her unending enthusiasm, great energy and wonderful sense of humor. After not participating in a group activity for many years, I finally gave one of Barbara's cycling classes a try. I hated it. I was out of breath, uncomfortable and my butt killed for a week. The only thing that got me back to class was Barbara She inspired me to keep trying, taught me how to use a heart rate monitor and pushed me a little further than I thought I could go. At the end of a long day of teaching it was hard to change clothe and go to the gym for another workout but as soon as I got there, I was so glad. After a few comments ("Oh nice of you to show up, it's about time you got here, etc") my butt and I settled in . It took a few weeks but I really saw improvement, and felt much better on the days I worked out.
